Health in Escuintla: Urgent Needs, Big Opportunity

Escuintla, one of Guatemala’s most important regions, is best known for its sugarcane fields, bustling trade, and gateway to the Pacific coast. But behind the activity and growth lies a sobering reality: for thousands of families, dependable and affordable healthcare is out of reach.

At God Said Go, we believe Escuintla is not just a place—it’s a community of people deeply loved by God, and one where hope and healing are desperately needed. That’s why Centro Médico Vida Plena is being built here: to fill the critical gaps in healthcare and provide long-term transformation for generations to come.

The Reality in Escuintla

Although Escuintla is only 56 kilometers from Guatemala City, its surrounding villages often feel a world away when it comes to access to medical services. Over 160,000 people live in the department’s urban hub, but many still rely on a strained public health system.

Government hospitals and small rural health posts often lack medicines, diagnostic tools, and staff. Families wait for hours—or even days—just to be seen. Private clinics are available, but their cost places them far beyond the reach of most working families. As a result, many delay treatment until illnesses become critical.

These health gaps have lasting consequences:

  • Increased rates of untreated chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension
  • Higher risks for maternal and infant mortality
  • Families forced to choose between medical care and other essentials like food or housing

The Vision of Vida Plena

Our response to this urgent need is Centro Médico Vida Plena, a medical center designed to be:

  • Accessible: Located in Escuintla so families don’t have to travel long distances to receive care.
  • Affordable: Services priced to meet the needs of working families, while still providing sustainable income for the clinic.
  • Sustainable: A model that combines paying patients with subsidized or free care for the most vulnerable.
  • Comprehensive: A hub that connects directly to our mobile village clinics, ensuring patients have consistent follow-up and ongoing care.
  • Holistic: Caring for the body while also offering prayer, encouragement, and the hope of Christ.

Already, construction is transforming an old school building into a state-of-the-art medical facility. Walls are being reshaped, spaces reimagined, and every day brings us closer to opening day. Once complete, this clinic will serve thousands of families in Escuintla and beyond—becoming a place where both healing and hope take root.

How You Can Be Part of the Story

The vision for Vida Plena is big—but so is the need. Every prayer, every gift, and every act of generosity is a building block that brings this project closer to reality.

When you give toward this project, you are not just funding bricks and mortar—you are investing in lives. You are making it possible for mothers to receive prenatal care, children to get checkups, and families to find compassionate treatment when illness strikes.

Together, we’re building more than a medical center. We’re building hope for Escuintla.

    Good afternoon:
How nice to see what the Lord’s getting done in Guatemala through your organization. I would like to know two things. First, what denomination is your organization and do you all by chance have anyone teaching the people some type of skill to help them increase their earnings capability.

    Thank you,

    George taylor

    1. Hello George, thanks for your comment. To answer your questions, we are an intra-denominational organization and currently our efforts are training up the pastors and church leadership to prepare them to assist with development efforts in their villages. We hope to soon transition to Truth Centered Development through the communities. We also have a goal of starting up an faith-centered entrepreneur training program next year. Please feel free to email me at je**@*******go.org if you would like to talk about this further. Cheers, Jeff
