In the village of El Dique, our team met a 13-year-old boy whose story reflects the reality of so many children in rural Guatemala. Instead of sitting in a classroom, he spends his days tending livestock and working the fields to help support his family. School is a luxury he cannot afford, and his future seems already written—years of hard labor in the same fields he walks today.
But on this visit, something unexpected happened.
Something hopeful.
A Pain He Couldn’t Ignore
When he arrived at our mobile clinic, we immediately noticed he was limping. For months, he had been working long days in rubber boots—usually without socks. The constant moisture and friction had caused painful athlete’s foot and infected ingrown toenails on both big toes.
Back in the city, this would be a simple referral. But in El Dique, the nearest hospital is hours away, and the monthly visit from the local health post doesn’t include the tools needed for this type of procedure. In other words—if we didn’t help him that day, no one would.
Turning a Church Into an Operating Room
So we did what we always do: we adapted.
Inside the small village church where we had set up the clinic, Nurse Rocío and our ministry team prepared a clean, makeshift treatment area. With a small vial of injectable lidocaine, we were able to numb his toes and gently remove both ingrown nails—relieving months of pain he had quietly endured.
He never complained. Not once.
Like so many here, he simply pushed through because he had no other choice.
Healing That Goes Home With Him
After the procedure, we sent him home with:
- Oral medication for pain and inflammation
- Topical treatment for his fungal infection
- Bandaging materials and instructions for daily care
- A reminder that God sees him—and so do we
This simple intervention, done in a village church with limited tools, will change the course of his days ahead. He’ll be able to walk without pain. Work without wincing. And, we pray, dream beyond the fields in front of him.
Why Your Partnership Matters
Moments like this happen because people like you choose to stand with us. Your generosity places medicine, supplies, and trained medical staff in villages that would otherwise go unseen.
In places where referrals aren’t possible, your support becomes the solution.
Thank you for helping us bring hope, healing, and the love of Christ to families who need it most.

You rock Rocio!
What a wonderful nurse you are!
God bless you for helping so many there.
