We’re thrilled to share a special story of faith, perseverance, and partnership straight from El Asintal, Guatemala. Thanks to the generosity of Calvary Chapel in Arkansas City, Kansas, and a faithful couple from our GSG Missions Board, something long-prayed-for has finally become reality:
Pastor Johnathan’s church now has a roof!
For the past five years, Pastor Johnathan and his wife have been working tirelessly to build their church—one tamale at a time. Literally. This couple has been making and selling tons of tamales from their small home, using the proceeds to slowly purchase building materials as they could afford them. Their story is a powerful reminder that ministry often begins with small, faithful steps.
This year, God multiplied their efforts through the hands and hearts of others:
- Calvary Chapel not only sent a short-term mission team to serve alongside us last year, but they also donated a significant portion of the funds needed to purchase the roofing materials.
- When there was still a financial gap, a generous couple from our GSG Missions Board stepped forward, covering the remaining costs.
Together, this collaboration of believers—across countries and communities—helped cover Pastor Johnathan’s church in El Asintal with a physical roof. But it’s so much more than just metal sheets and beams. This new roof symbolizes shelter, safety, and a spiritual home for a growing congregation that has been gathering faithfully, rain or shine.
As you look through the before, during, and after photos (make sure to check out the captions!), you’ll see not just a building project, but a testimony. A testimony of God’s faithfulness through years of waiting, of a congregation’s determination, and of churches around the world coming together to answer a need.
While the church building isn’t finished yet, the transformation so far is incredible—and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey of faith. Whether through prayers, donations, or hands-on help, you’ve made a lasting difference in El Asintal.
