Episode 13: We’re So Close! Major Progress & Final Steps Ahead

This week brought some of the most exciting progress yet at Centro Médico Vida Plena! Even though Esther and I are currently in Oregon visiting our daughter Nikki and son-in-law Connor, the work in Guatemala continues to move forward quickly. I’ll admit—I’m a little bummed that I missed seeing these big updates in person! But thankfully, our amazing team, Christian and Irene, captured everything on video so we could still share it with you.

Here’s what happened this week:

🛡️ Security Shields Installed

The front windows now have secure roll-down shields that protect the building when the center is closed. Once the front door is installed, it will have one as well. This adds a huge layer of safety for our staff, equipment, and patients.

💡 Exterior Lights Installed

New lights were added at the front entrance, making the building bright, safe, and welcoming.

🚽 Employee Bathroom Nearly Finished

The toilet and sink are installed! All that’s left is to hang the door and add a coat of paint, and this area will be complete.

🎥 Security Cameras Throughout the Building

Our friends at Tiasa did an incredible job installing cameras in key areas and securing the DVR system inside a lockbox. We’re grateful to have a partner that does excellent, trustworthy work.

🔬 Lab Security Shield Installed

The laboratory window now features its own roll-up shield. When raised, it’s ready for business and looks fantastic.

❄️ Ceilings & A/C Units Installed

Every single room now has finished ceilings and air conditioning. The whole building feels like a functional medical center—cool, enclosed, and ready to be equipped.

🚪 New Interior Doors Going In

The doors look beautiful—private yet filled with natural light thanks to the small upper window panel.

We’re Almost There!

Construction should wrap up next week, and then we transition into paint and beautification. The finish line is in sight!

🙏 Licensing Prayer Request

Please continue praying for our medical licensing. The process is moving slowly and may impact our projected January opening. Pray for favor, wisdom, and timely approval.

💛 We Still Need Your Help

We are $45,000 away from completing this medical center. Even after construction is finished, we still need:

  • Exam room equipment
  • Reception and office furniture
  • Pharmacy shelving
  • Laboratory cabinets
  • Waiting room chairs
  • $30,000 in lab equipment

Your generosity helps us open the doors to a center that will serve thousands of families in Escuintla with affordable, compassionate medical care.
