Senaida Gonzales de Córdoba, wife of Pastor Mario Córdoba, lives in the village of Venecia, Guanagazapa. She is a 32-year-old woman who was preparing to welcome her fourth child, a boy who was born healthy and who, after ten months, has grown into a beautiful baby.
However, during delivery, Senaida suffered maternal cerebral hypoxia, a complication that forced her immediate transfer to intensive care at the nearest hospital. She was in a coma and spent several days in a long and difficult recovery. When she was finally discharged, her husband noticed that something was not right: Senaida did not seem to be in full use of her faculties, she could not follow a simple conversation. For this reason, he decided to take charge of the baby, considering that she was in no condition to take care of him.
Three months later, during a health clinic organized by GSG in the village, we found Senaida visibly affected. She appeared distracted and disoriented, and repeated that she missed holding her baby in her arms. Although her vital signs were stable, except for a slightly low blood pressure, her gaze reflected emptiness. The diagnosis was postpartum depression. Everything in her body seemed to be working well, but her inner light was off.
The real surprise came in April, when we returned to conduct a clinic in the same village. Senaida’s transformation was shocking: her facial expressions were back, her eyes were alive and, most importantly, she had her child in her arms again. She took care of her home and joyfully welcomed us with a delicious chicken broth and tortillas that she prepared herself.
Her recovery is a true miracle. Shawn, in charge of the pastoral discipleship and training, prayed constantly for the healing of Pastor Mario’s wife. Every GSG member prayed for her at one time or another, and today we thank God for answering our prayers. To see her like this, full of life, it is as if she has been born again.
