When Pain Hits Home: How God Used a Friend to Remind Us We’re Not Alone

Thank you so much, Edwin. I’m truly at a loss for words. I’ve been in bed for 3 days since returning from Hong Kong, relying on pain pills and muscle relaxers. My condition prevents me from being upright without excruciating pain. I feel quite crippled, especially since this pain started over two weeks ago while I was still in Hong Kong.

During that time, I was in a different time zone, doing what I felt God called me to do, while Jeff continued leading our villages ministry in Guatemala without missing a beat. Jeff is overwhelmed with both frontline and administrative work, but our donations are at the lowest we’ve ever seen.

Last night, I shared with Jeff about a friend who had the same problem I do now. It cost him around US$5,200 (which was 2 years ago, and costs are likely higher now due to inflation) and a year of chiropractic treatments, acupuncture, and physical therapy to stop his pain. If I want to avoid another spine surgery — and that might be what we’re facing. Then I heard Jeff mumbling that the ministry could really use that money, even if we had it.

I asked if the ministry’s funding was low, and he confirmed it’s lower than ever. (By the way, it’s not that he doesn’t care about my health — he just means we don’t have the funds or time for natural treatments.)

The ministry has many needs, some urgent like getting another truck. Our white truck has been in and out of the repair shop. We take good care of it, but we don’t baby it — we use it for what it was meant for. However, disregard the condition of our first ministry truck, we’ve outgrown our current vehicle and need a second truck.

We rarely ask for donations, aside from campaigns like Giving Tuesday and funding for our first truck in 2021. Our monthly expenses are high. Instead of asking, we pray — prayer has been what sustains us. I have prayed, but I also felt it was important to continue sharing what we do on our ministry page.

Then I saw this Facebook birthday fundraiser. If you knew Edwin, you’d know he has a big heart. He gives his time and money to many ministries, both overseas and locally. We haven’t spoken privately in a long while, but somehow, God whispered to him, “God Said Go ministry needs help,” and he responded. Only God can do that!!!

So, thank you, Edwin, for your sensitive spirit and obedient heart. And thank you in advance to everyone who would like to help — whether by celebrating Edwin’s birthday or donating directly to God Said Go through our website, if you don’t know Edwin and want to help!

Thank you, Edwin, for creating this platform that allows me to share our needs and my heart for the ministry. Thank you for all of our current supporters for helping us keep our ministry going! Please keep praying for us! ❤️🙏🙏🙏
