Meet Charlene Barnes – Registered Nurse with God Said Go Missions

Bringing Health, Healing, and Hope to Guatemala’s Most Forgotten

Charlene Barnes is a veteran missionary nurse with over 20 years of experience in medical missions across Latin America. Today, she serves with God Said Go, leading mobile medical clinics into the most remote and underserved villages of Guatemala—where children and families suffer daily under the weight of extreme generational poverty.

A Nurse Called by God

Charlene’s journey began in the spring of 1977 when she stepped into a nursing program—unaware that God was using every moment to prepare her for the mission field.

Over her 31-year career, she gained deep experience in:

  • Psychiatric and geriatric nursing

  • Medical-surgical care at Springfield State Hospital in Maryland

  • Health services within the Maryland prison system

Each chapter built her resilience, sharpened her compassion, and planted seeds for something more.

A Life Laid Down for the Mission

In 1999, while attending New Life Chapel in Westminster, Maryland, Charlene answered the call to missions. Her first trip with Mercy Mission Teams NC changed everything. From that point on, she would go on to serve throughout Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and even deep into the Amazon Jungle of Peru.

After retiring from full-time nursing, she moved to Ohio and served with Living Waters Medical Missions International—until God once again said, “Go.”

Charlene relocated to Guatemala, where she now works with GSG Medical Missions with a focus on healing bodies and sharing the Gospel in some of the most inaccessible regions of the country.

Ministry in Motion

Charlene helps a growing outreach that brings:

  • 🩺 Mobile medical clinics to indigenous mountain villages

  • 💊 Medication and treatment to families without access to doctors or hospitals

  • 💬 Compassionate counseling and spiritual care to those who feel forgotten

  • 🙌 Hands-on ministry that reflects the healing power of Jesus Christ

Serving under the covering of Iglesia Fresca Presencia in Guatemala and sent by her home church, Believers Pentecostal Church in Ohio, Charlene remains rooted in prayer and accountability.

Her heart is simple but bold: to love like Jesus and heal in His name.

Her Mission Is Possible—With You

Charlene, like all GSG missionaries, receives no salary. She relies on the generosity of faithful partners who believe in her calling and commit to support her through:

  • Monthly or annual giving

  • Prayer and intercession

  • Encouragement and relational partnership

Your gift directly supports Charlene’s living expenses, travel to remote villages, and the purchase of medical supplies that can save lives and open doors for the Gospel.

A Word from Charlene:

“I once heard a minister say, ‘When we live in our boxes, our boxes become coffins and we die there.’
Dare to live outside your box. The excitement and anticipation of stepping out in faith holds no comparison to a stifled dream.”

“Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.”
