Remodel Update #8: Hope Is Taking Shape at Centro Médico Vida Plena
Jeff shares the latest construction progress at Centro Médico Vida Plena.
Every week, this old school building in Escuintla looks a little less like the past and a little more like the future.
This week, that future is standing tall — literally. The wall that once worried our construction team is now rebuilt from the ground up, reinforced with concrete columns designed to withstand Guatemala’s frequent earthquakes. Step by step, block by block, our dream for Centro Médico Vida Plena is becoming a reality.
Inside, progress is happening fast. The new sewer pipe is in place, the electrical wiring is near complete, and floor tiles are stacked high, ready to cover every room of what will soon be a faith-based medical center bringing affordable healthcare to the people of Escuintla.
And because this is Guatemala, there are always a few surprises. In this week’s video, Jeff shows how local electricians ran the wiring through the floor instead of the ceiling — something that might make U.S. electricians squirm! 😅 But as he says, “We’re in Guatemala — and it works!”
You’ll also see:
🧱 Brand new nurse’s station walls taking shape
💡 Electrical outlets installed throughout
🚽 Bathroom window nearly complete
💦 Plans for a new water pressure system to ensure reliable flow
There’s still a small roof leak to fix and a few design decisions to make — like whether to keep the concrete sink base in the lab or replace it with cabinetry. (Jeff’s taking votes in the comments!)
Through it all, every improvement is a step closer to the day when this center opens its doors to patients who need compassionate, affordable care — and every supporter, donor, and prayer partner is part of that transformation.
Centro Médico Vida Plena isn’t just a building project — it’s a mission of faith in action. When families in Escuintla finally have access to quality care at prices they can afford, every wall, wire, and tile will tell a story of hope built by many hands.
❤️ Help us finish strong.
