Episode 7: From Tile to Troubles: Building Hope One Wall at a Time

Every week, the dream of Centro Médico Vida Plena comes a little closer to reality—and this week’s progress brought both exciting steps forward and a few unexpected setbacks along the way.

Our team has been hard at work transforming an old school building into a modern, faith-based medical center that will bring affordable healthcare to families in Escuintla. Inside, you can already see the transformation taking shape: the bathroom tile is beautifully finished, the exam room walls are up, and new plumbing and electrical lines are being installed. Each room now has a clear purpose, and it’s not hard to imagine the day when patients will walk through these doors to receive care, comfort, and prayer.

But as with any major remodel, progress sometimes uncovers problems. This week, our crew discovered that the drainage line was completely blocked—and even more concerning, one of the main support walls had been built years ago with low-quality blocks, no foundation, and no support columns. It’s a wall that simply can’t stay the way it is.

That means more work, more expense, and a few extra steps on the path toward opening day. Still, we’re choosing to see it differently: this is an opportunity to build it right. A reminder that if we want this medical center to stand strong for generations, we can’t cut corners—we have to lay every brick with care and faith.

Despite the challenges, there’s plenty to celebrate. We’ve finalized plans for the air conditioning and electrical systems, and construction of the new doctors’ hand-washing station is underway. Every improvement—whether seen or unseen—brings us one step closer to opening the doors of Centro Médico Vida Plena and extending hope to thousands of Guatemalan families who currently have nowhere affordable to turn for medical care.

We can’t wait to show you next week’s progress as the transformation continues!

❤️ Help us finish strong.
